Lonnae O’Neal: A daughter’s poignant reminder about a scourge with us still

A friend recently e-introduced me to Chanie Infante Louisma, a Boston writer who ran a lifestyle Web site focused on local food and dining. She had just become a columnist for the Dorchester Reporter community newspaper and had written a piece on gardening. I was happy, as always, to welcome another woman to the ranks.

She has quite the back story, the friend said, and urged me to check it out. This is how her story starts:
