Global Handwashing Day 2018


October 15 is Global Handwashing Day, a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives. This year’s theme focuses on the links between handwashing and food – including food hygiene and nutrition. This online hub serves as a conversational space that curates, collects, and maintains resources, blogs, and content for Global Handwashing Day. LEARN MORE

Medical Aid Films: Mr. Tembo Comes Clean!

The UK-based NGO, Medical Aid Films, in collaboration with Guys & St. Thomas’ Hospital in London along with their Zambia link in Ndola have produced the film, “Mr. Tembo Comes Clean!” on handwashing and hygiene. Producing versions in English, Yoruba, and Bemba, this project not only aimed to help communities learn about handwashing, but also provided a version covering handwashing best practices for health workers in the hospitals.

Who do you wash your hands for?

It’s well established that handwashing is one of the most effective measures to prevent the spread of infections and has the power to save millions of lives. Now, a new global survey conducted by Essity – maker of Tork products – reveals that washing your hands can also have a positive impact on how people around you feel and behave. The survey was conducted between July 9 and August 6, 2018, through web panels in six different countries, collecting answers from a total of 3,060 respondents. National quotas have been used to obtain accurate representation of age and gender.
